Because they took Kurt Fischer back, got the information about his interrogation, and killed him themselves.

[ it's almost too brutal to conceptualize, but rey feels obligated to remind herself of the reality of what they're dealing with. if the una would kill their own people just to pin it on morningstar, they're more abominable than she'd previously thought. ]

What do you know about the outposts already? I know Peggy and Riku have been looking into them, but they seem above board on the surface from what I've heard. That means they're probably doing legitimate research out there too, right?

They're claiming they killed him, anyway.

I did some digging and found three active research outposts within a 200 mile radius. I can forward the information along. And yeah, they'd be doing legitimate research too -- it'd be a complete waste of resources otherwise. As you may have noticed, this world isn't big on that.

His family isn't allowed to see him anyway. How would they know?

If Fischer is still alive, he's proof that the UN is lying to everyone.
He's proof that Morningstar isn't what they say.

But trying to find proof of that isn't going to be easy.

But if he's still alive, and we find him, there's a way to prove it's him.

[ that's hope, at least. and a direction. it's more than she had before this conversation started. ]

If you were going to get to the outposts, how would you do it? Travel outside of the city is highly regulated, isn't it?

They could have also changed his ID and given him a new name. It's not the most elegant way to shove this all under the rug, but I wouldn't put it past them.

You'd have to buy a ticket to another city on a route that would take you near one of the outposts and then hop off the train in between stops. Or figure out when they're dropping off supplies to one of the outposts and stowaway.

I take it conditions out there aren't better than they were during the EMP.
