That's a big "if." What did you have in mind? I understand wanting to prepare, but this could also be something different. Like all of you getting whisked away to another world again.

With respect, the consequences of dismissing it as anything other than a precursor will be bigger than the inconvenience of standing down should it be something different.

We'll need to establish protocols now to allow swift access to and dissemination of any resources you can spare should anything hit. Specifically arms, vehicles and medical supplies. And other cities need to know to stand by for possible action.

I understand what you're saying. I'll give you what I can, and alert everyone who's part of the New Amsterdam branch. They're the most likely to get it.

But if I reach out to the Morningstar heads in other cities and ask them to prepare for a possible attack, only to have them ask me what they're preparing for and how I know it's coming, what would you suggest I tell them?

How widespread is knowledge about us within the organization?

How much each branch knows varies from place to place and how often I'm in contact with them. Some branches are a lot more self-sufficient than others. Some know that we've been housing a group of unique people with powers, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll jump into action just because of some dreams you've had.

Understandable. But our reputation seems to have grown beyond us, and if there were ever a time to utilize that it would be now.

Tell them one of us has tipped you off to the possibility of a coming event on the severity level of the monster attack last June, with potential for global reach, and that your previous involvement with us gives you reason to believe there may be some basis in it. Express to them that you were asked for your help to protect the city by taking precautionary measures and to spread the word to others to do the same.

If it isn't enough, it isn't enough. I can record something to the same effect if proof of source will help.

[ One of us, I. It's a matter of optics. It's incredible how quickly the tide of public opinion can turn - if this does happen, connecting all of the displaced to it might be enough to prompt the new witchhunt so many have predicted.

But if they say nothing and it happens and the reach of it is wide and lives that might've been defended given warning aren't— they'll have blood on their hands. And the backlash for that if it gets out that they knew would be much, much worse.

Positive attention can be shared easily after the fact if there's cause. Negative attention is more difficult to refine once it's angled at the group as a whole. ]

I feel like I'm still missing something here. What makes you so certain that one of the dreams you experienced is a premonition? As far as I can remember, that wasn't the case before. And why do you think it's going to be on a global scale?

It's always been the case that our dreams coincide with disaster, even if they've never been this potentially literal. Our first widespread dreaming came over us as New Tokyo was set upon and destroyed by a monster this world doesn't remember, and a week later we slipped into a shared dream as another creature attacked New Johannesburg. When we woke it wasn't monsters but extreme weather conditions that plagued the cities and our actions had changed the world in myriad other smaller ways.

This time, it was an unforeseen earthquake that coincided with the dreaming. Not dissimilar to how it was assumed one had hit New Amsterdam before it proved to be the arrival of the giant creature and its smaller counterparts that did so much damage to this city. As they've been described to me and the network, all of the recent dreams granted glimpses into the experience of those who went out on the Antarctic expedition, grounding the dreams in time and placing them at the approximate origin of the unexplained quake. Two out of what would appear to be three separate branches then go on to follow the journey of a flood of creatures with golden glowing eyes up out of the earth and into cities. I don't know which cities. I'm asking you to pass this message on as though it's a global risk because I do not want to leave anywhere without a warning.

These dreams are more specific to our current time and situation than any we've had before. Even if they aren't a premonition of the exact events they're depicting, they're a premonition of something. If we disappear to another world or into dreams, you have to hope we can do enough to protect this reality. If we don't, I need you to have done whatever you can to help us and this reality do enough to protect itself.

I know there's only so much that it's in your power to do. But please. Just spread the word.

Wow. I was almost expecting footnotes.

I understand your concern, and that the dreams most likely mean that something is about to happen. We just don't know the what, when, or where, which makes it difficult to make any specific preparations.

I'll let the other branches know to be ready, though. For whatever it is.
